Using DIY affirmation cards can be a complete game changer for you.
Sometimes, you don’t want to pay $15, $20, or sometimes even $25+ for some cards that you really can just make at home.
Especially if you live in the United States, like me, where just about everything is double what it used to be. Most of us just don’t have the money to be doing all that.
So that’s why today I will be sharing with you how to make your own DIY affirmation cards!
They’re super easy to make, inexpensive, and you can customize them how you like.
No need to buy affirmation cards because after this article, you will have everything you need to know on how to make the best affirmation cards at home.

What Are DIY Affirmations Cards?
Affirmation cards (without the DIY) are cards you use each day in order to say or remind yourself of a positive statement (aka an affirmation).
DIY affirmation cards use the exact same concept, only you make them instead of buying them.
It can be hard to tell which option would be a better fit (whether to make them or buy them), but if you are:
- Creative
- Enjoy arts and crafts
- Bored and need something to do
- Broke as a joke right now
Then it’s safe to say DIY affirmation cards will probably be a better option for you.
If you are one (or more) of those things and still don’t know whether you want to make them or buy them, then stick around until the end and I’ll have something for you that can maybe help you better to decide.
Anyway, most people, myself included, put their cards either:
- In their mirror
- On their desk
- On their dresser
There really is no specific place you have to put your affirmation cards, but I do recommend putting them somewhere you will see them each day.
You also do NOT have to say your affirmations while looking in the mirror. I see this myth all the time, and it kind of gets under my skin.
Affirmations aren’t meant to be a ritual, it’s a positive statement you are affirming to be true in order to change your mindset, attract better things into your life, or both.
You can say them anywhere at any time, and personally, I say mine in the shower most days.
What You Need For DIY Affirmation Cards
If you don’t have some of these items right now, then I recommend getting them from your local store or off Amazon because they ship pretty fast.
The Essentials:
- Paper
- Scissors
- Pencil, Pen, or Marker
- Affirmations
If you want to be more creative with your DIY affirmation cards then you could also use:
If you want that thicker card paper rather than regular paper then I recommend getting White Cardstock.
How To Create DIY Affirmation Cards
1. Cut Your Paper Into Rectangles
The first step to creating your DIY affirmation cards is to cut your paper of choice into rectangles.
You can cut your cards however big or small you choose, but most affirmation cards are about 3.5 x 2.5 inches on average.
I don’t recommend making them too big because you want to be able to place these somewhere and it not be a nuisance.
Pro Tip: Set a relaxed or fun mood before you start making your affirmation cards.
Light a candle, meditate, play your favorite music, or whatever the case may be just get in a good headspace before you start making your cards.
2. Choose Your Affirmations
The next step in making your DIY affirmation cards is to choose your affirmations.
This can actually be the most difficult part of this process because well which ones should you choose?
What if you choose the “wrong” ones?
How do you come up with good affirmations?
I get it.
But I want to remind you of two things. One, there is no right or wrong way to do this because this is about you and two, if you mess up then you can just make new ones.
So don’t stress about what affirmations to choose because there’s no need. I have plenty of affirmations for you to choose from.
And if you still have absolutely no idea where to start then ask yourself, “What do I need more of right now?”
Is it:
Whatever you answered with, go with that (each one is blue because it’s linked to affirmations specifically for that so feel free to use them).
I will also include 22 affirmations to start with in the next section.
3. Write Your Affirmations On The Cards
After you have your paper cut up and you’ve chosen the affirmations you want to use, then you will write them down on your cards.
This is also the step when the designing of your cards will take place.
You can choose to keep them minimalistic, colorful, artsy, unique, or make every single card different.
The choice is yours.
For mine, I choose to write them in a different color on each one because I already enjoy doing this anyway. Each journal entry I do, I use a different color so I wanted to do the same thing for my cards.
Pro Tip: Write your affirmations in the present tense (I am, I can, I let go of, etc)
4. Shuffle Them Up
Last but not least you want to shuffle your DIY affirmation cards once you’re done with them.
This step is technically not necessary, but I think it’s good to do because you won’t know which card you’re gonna pick for the day, and that can help keep things random and fresh.
If you decided to glue things to your cards (i.e. magazine clippings), then I would be super super careful when you’re shuffling your cards because you want to make sure you don’t ruin what you just created.
Affirmations To Choose From
Like we discussed earlier, if you’re having trouble deciding what affirmations you want to use then don’t fret, I got you.
These affirmations below are ones that I have used on a daily basis.
- I am kind
- I am disciplined

- I can do anything I put my mind to
- I am fearless
- Each day is a new opportunity to achieve my goals
- I am a money magnet
- I am open to what God has in store for me
For more general and motivating affirmations, you can also start with these:

- Today is going to be a good day
- My heart is filled with gratitude and my mind is at peace
- I am proud of myself
- I have every single thing I need to succeed
- Each obstacle is an opportunity to grow
- I am confident
- Each day I get closer and closer to my goals
- I let go of what doesn’t genuinely matter
- I choose to be happy today
- I am unstoppable
How To Use DIY Affirmation Cards
There are about 100 different ways you can use your affirmation cards (I’m not kidding you), so I’m going to give you the simple way.
Feel free to take what works for you and discard what doesn’t work for you because the main thing about using DIY affirmation cards is to choose at least one card a day and say it out loud.
That’s it.
You can be as extra as you want, or you can be as simple as you want. The choice is yours.
1. Use Them Consistently
You can use them daily or weekly by either:
- Selecting a new card once a day
- Selecting a new card once a week
I recommend choosing a new card once a day because you may be more likely to forget about your affirmation card if you just choose it once a week and leave it.
I also recommend doing your affirmations in the morning. You can do them at night, but doing them in the morning is so much better (for me) because it gets your day started on a positive note.
Another way to use them consistently is you can take them with you on the go!
Thataway they’ll always be with you and you can have something positive to look at while you’re out and about.
2. Put Them Somewhere You Will See Them
If you choose not to take them with you on the go then I suggest placing your affirmations somewhere you will see them every day.
You could be like me and put them in your mirror (because I used paper, I had to tape mine to my mirror). Or, you could be like my sister and put them on your desk.
The location isn’t as important as it is for you to just see them once a day.
This can help you be consistent and even give you a little pick-me-up if you’re feeling down.
3. Say Your Affirmation Out Loud
Next, you’ll want to say your affirmation out loud.
I highly highly highly recommend doing this because saying your affirmations aloud can be way more beneficial than saying them in your head.
When you say your affirmations out loud you’re actually helping to improve your self-awareness, emotional regulation, and even cognitive function.
Yes, you may feel silly at first, but the long-term benefits of saying them aloud outweigh feeling silly for a few moments.
Plus, the more you keep up with your affirmations, the less silly you will feel.
When I first started using affirmations I felt the same way, so trust me when I tell you I understand. And also trust me when I tell you that that feeling will go away sooner than you think.
Other Ways You Can Use Your DIY Affirmation Cards

- Repeat that affirmation throughout the day
- Write the affirmation in your journal
- Spark a conversation with a friend about the card you chose that day
- Choose 2 cards for the week instead of 1
- Meditate on the affirmation card you chose for the day
