How To Change Yourself In 30 Days
1. Figure Out Why You Want To Change
Going into this just saying “How to change yourself in 30 days” is not going to work.
You need to figure out what you want to change and why you want to change it.
Do you want to stop smoking? If so, is it because other people around you stopped smoking? Is it because you know it’s bad for your lungs? Or is it because it makes your breath stink and you have a hot date?
Do you want to change the amount of discipline for yourself? If so, is it because you saw it on a YouTube video? Is it because you have a new goal that you want to stick with? Or is it because it will positively change your life?
Do you want to change by having more things in life? If so, what are the new things you want? And why do you even want more of that in your life? Is it because you saw someone else have it? Is it because having more will make your life easier (and how will it make your life easier)?
Be specific.
Knowing your “what” will keep you from just changing just for the sake of it and knowing your “why” will help keep you on track on the hard days.
2. Be Completely Honest With Yourself
So now that you’ve asked yourself the real questions, you need to be honest with yourself.
Don’t lie to yourself and say “I want more things in life because it’ll make my life easier” when it’s really because you saw some random lady in the store with those Manolo shoes on and you think it’ll make you feel better about yourself.
If you only want those shoes because it’ll make you feel better about yourself, then just say that.
At least you’re being honest, right?
Lying to yourself during this process is only going to make things more difficult for you and make it take longer to reach your goals because you will lead yourself and your change in a direction that you didn’t even want to go (because you were lying to yourself from the beginning).
3. Realize You Yourself Isn’t The Thing That Changes
Alright, so now that you know you know what you want, I have to tell you something.
You are not going to be the one to change (at first). It’s your actions and behaviors that you need to focus on changing, not you.
Your life is the way it is because of the habits, patterns, and behaviors that you have. So your life will change, once your habits, patterns, and behaviors change.
Bottom line. There’s no other way around this.
You can say all the affirmations in the mirror you want, but if your actions aren’t changing, it won’t matter.
And if some of you are thinking to yourself, “But this is just the way I am” then save it because it’s just an excuse.
We are not inherently one way.
If we were then we would all still mentally be babies because that’s how we all started and if you accept “That’s just who I am” then that is to say that we can’t change meaning we would’ve never changed from who we once were.
But you and I both know that is not the case, therefore proving you can (and should) continue changing and reoptimizing yourself and your life.
You decide who you are and what you choose to do with your time, no one else.
4. Decide What It Is You Want To Change
I know I said earlier to decide what you want to change, but now that we know that it’s not you that’s changing, it’s your actions, you now need to figure out which actions of yours need to change.
- Do you need to change up your routine, to help you stop smoking?
- Do you need to change your attitude and outlook?
- Do you need to take more small, daily, and consistent steps to reach your goal?
- Do you need to work out more?
- Do you need to hold yourself accountable more?
Take action: Stop for a second and imagine your life exactly the way you want it 6 months from now.
- What does this person do on a day-to-day basis?
- What does she/he eat?
- Who do they spend time with?
- What does their life look like?
Now look at your life today.
What actions do you take current day that need to improve or be removed in order to get to your ideal life?
5. Rechoose Each Day
The last thing you must do in order to learn how to change yourself in 30 days is to rechoose what you decided in the above steps.
Listen, you may have some excitement and motivation right now, but those two things will not last.
And you must choose your goals and dreams, even on the days you don’t feel like it.
Keep rechoosing what is right for you, and what you know will bring you the results you want even when you feel like crap, doubtful, unmotivated, and frustrated.
Those are the days where it really counts.

Best Tips On How To Change Yourself In 30 Days
Before we continue, I have to mention something. While the title, and the rest of the text, says “How To Change Yourself In 30 Days” it is going to take a bit longer than 30 days to see lasting change.
In 30 days you will definitely notice and feel a difference, but if you’re looking to change your life, it’s going to take way more than 30 days.
Those 30 days will make a difference, yes, but you have to also have patience and know this is a process not a race.
Most good things in life take time. So while, yes you can change yourself in 30 days, the kind of change you’re looking for requires patience, time, and commitment.
Are you truly ready to commit to this process?
1. Read 10 Pages Of A Good Book A Day
Regardless of what you answered in step one on how to change yourself, reading will get you the results you want faster.
This is because there is someone out there right now who has already accomplished the thing you want to accomplish, and reading from them is basically like having the cheat sheet.
Reading is also something that most people do not do anymore so by reading, you are already putting yourself MILES ahead of the game.
How much do you need to read? 10 pages a day.
10 pages of a good book, 365 days a year, is 12 books a year.
12 books. That’s insane.
Reading 10 pages a day has fundamentally changed my life for the better and I know it can significantly change your life too.
2. Consume Content That Inspires You For Your Goals
A lot of the time we think we feel unmotivated but really it’s all this crap we’re consuming.
Most of us consume content on the Internet, whether it’s on YouTube, Instagram, Tiktok, etc. We consume lots and lots of content, lots and lots of content that is:
- Unnecessary
- Negative
- Half of the time not even true
Instead of completely stopping social media cold turkey, because that in itself is a process that takes time, start listening to content that is directly related to your goals.
Listening to all this negative and unnecessary content is literally weighing your mind down and causing you to get unfocused and unmotivated.
So when you get on those platforms, make sure it’s content that either inspires you to take action or helps you get closer to your goals.
Pro Tip: Let go of social media, altogether. One, there’s nothing on there for you. Two, learning about what people think, do, say, eat, wear, etc is not getting you any closer to your goal (unless you’re keeping up with a mentor, and even then only go on the app to see your mentor and then get off).
If you’re going to get on a social media platform, try to limit it only to YouTube.
3. Force Your Body To Move
When you have those days where you don’t feel excited and motivated, you are going to have to force yourself to move.
On those days, commit to the smallest possible thing and go from there.
For example, when I don’t feel like writing, I tell myself “Write one sentence” because at least I did something (small) that gets me closer to my goals and usually I wind up getting the motivation after I’ve made that first hard step.
Movement = Motivation, not the other way around.
4. When You Start To Feel Excited…
I know I already said this before, but I’m going to say it again.
You are not going to always be excited and motivated, but you still have to show up every day.
Even if it’s just one sentence, one push-up, one listing, whatever it is, you still need to show up.
The days that you don’t feel like working towards your goals, but you still choose to, count wayyyyy more than the days that you do feel motivated.
I promise you.
You need to commit, stay committed, and recommit each day.
Rechoose those good actions that will take you to the places you want to go, each day.
Books That Helped Me Learn How To Change Yourself
- The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen (for some reason I can’t find my copy right now)

- The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F**k by Mark Mason

- Get Out Of Your Head by Jennie Allen

- The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

- The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

- Change Your Questions Change Your Life by Marilee Adams
You can either buy these books and make them yours or you can check most of these books out at the library to save money.
Initially, I checked most of these books out because I didn’t have the money at the time, and then later on I bought them so
- They were mine
- I could write in them
- I could go back and read them
You can’t go wrong either way though.
Quotes To Change Yourself
- “Who you’re becoming is far more important than what you are doing, and yet it is what you’re doing that determines who you are becoming.” – Hal Elrod
- “It’s easy to do and it’s easy not to do.” – Jeff Olsen
- “Your phone is a tool, not a toy. When you start treating it like a toy, it starts treating you like a joke.” – Unknown
- “Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” – Rumi
- “The best way to say ‘I love you, God’ is to live your life doing your best. The best way to say, ‘Thank you God’ is by letting go of the past and living in the present moment right here and now” – Don Miguel Ruiz
- “You don’t have to dwell on every horrible thing that may never happen.” – Jennie Allen
- “God built a way for us to escape the downward spiral. But we rarely take it. We have bought the lie that we are victims of our thoughts rather than warriors equipped to fight on the front lines of the greatest battle of our generation: the battle for our minds.” – Jennie Allen
I just want to say that I know some people do not believe in God, and that is totally okay, but just because you don’t agree with someone’s beliefs doesn’t mean you can’t learn something life-changing from them.
I was actually going to stop reading one of the books I listed above (I won’t tell you which one just to keep you unbiased) because I didn’t agree with what he was writing in the beginning, but I decided I was going to still give it a chance.
And then, it wound up being one of my favorite books of all time.
So you never know what someone might teach you, even if you don’t agree with them and even if you don’t like them.
