1. Don’t Do Too Many New Year Prompts At Once
I don’t recommend doing more than 5 in one session because you don’t want to overwhelm yourself.
I understand you may be excited and want to complete a bunch of journal prompts for new year at once, but this can easily lead to you being overwhelmed.
It can also cause you to be all over the place with your goals and unfocused. You want to aim for simple yet effective.
Focus on the areas that you want to improve the most this new year and master one thing at a time.
This is not a race or competition.
2. Be Honest With Yourself
This is probably one of the most important tips for using journal prompts for new year. Please please please be honest with yourself.
None of this will matter if you’re not going to truly hold yourself accountable and be honest about what you’re doing.
I won’t lie to you though, sometimes this is tough and uncomfortable but I promise it is so worth it.
Would you rather go through that uncomfortable time now and see growth later or stay comfortable now and wind up in the exact same place you are right now a year later?
3. Keep Your Goals Reasonable
You want to make sure you keep your goals reasonable.
Don’t set a goal of wanting to go into space within one year if you know that it takes 10 years to become an astronaut.
Sidenote: Did you know it takes 10 years to become an astronaut? Because I sure didn’t. You have to get your bachelor’s degree (4 years), master’s degree (2 years), professional experience (2 years), and mandatory basic training (2 years).
It’s one thing to reach for the stars, but it’s another thing to be completely unreasonable.
The more reasonable your goals are the more likely you are to achieve them because you won’t be so overwhelmed with these huge steps of action.

Each time of day has its pros and cons, so I’d say if you’re a morning person or you’re more productive in the mornings then I would do it in the morning.
If you’re not a morning person and can barely get out of the door, then I would do it in the evening or before you go to bed.
You can’t go wrong either way though, it’s about what fits in your schedule and what works for you.
I personally prefer doing my journal prompts in the morning, despite the fact that I’m not a morning person, because one, I won’t remember to do them in the evening and two it gets my day started on a positive note.
6. If You Don’t Know What To Write…
Last but not least, if you don’t know what to write (because it be like that sometimes) then my best solution to offer you is to just write something.
If you just put something down then you will figure out what it is you really want to say.
